2 Replies to “UK – Wiltshire UFO Encounters – to 1960”

  1. I was frequently travelling from london to yatesbury for a period between those dates usually on a monday morning at around 2am.
I saw a bright light illuminating an area across the fields adjacent to the road and was puzzled by its intensity and couldnt place its origin or what was likely to be causing it. The light was silvery in effect and now in reflection was like modern led created light but on a massive scale. The area it covered was very large and it moved across the ground as i travelled along the road only able to glance at it occasionally as i had to control the vehicle i was using. The night was moonless and very dark in consequence until the light appeared and a short while later it illuminated an area ahead of me as i descended a hill between heavily wooded surroundings remaining to light up that part as i travelled through it. There was a long right hand bend at the bottom of the hill and i realised that there was something travelling along with me behind a line of trees and as i turned my head to give it a fairly brief look saw a more defined light source on a smaller scale illuminating each tree trunk that it passed first on one side then the other as it travelled along with me. The problem then was that it was hard to look away from that light!

  2. As a child living on the Isle of Wight I saw an unexplained aerial phenomenon which was also recorded as being seen in Wiltshire. I don’t know the exact date, but believe it was sometime between 1958 and 1960. I was with a friend on the golf course near the village of Binstead on a winter evening with a clear starry sky. We noticed what looked to be two stars slowly moving in the sky, as we watched they moved in the same direction, but at the same time were going closer together then further apart then closer again. Then all of a sudden one shot off at in a totally different direction at a fantastic speed across the sky and the other moved away in the opposite direction. It was all over very quickly and as young boys we chatted about it and then promptly forgot, until a couple of days later when there was an article in the Daily Mirror by some kind of aeronautical expert. He had also witnessed the same event from somewhere in Wiltshire and he stated that it couldn’t be explained and that there were no craft that could perform such manoeuvres nor travel at such speed. So I was immensely pleased to have witnessed a genuine ufo sighting and have held it in my memory ever since.
Now I don’t want you to think that I’m a crank, the above is all genuine and factual and what follows is possibly complete fantasy and coincidence, but within the same time period (though I never linked the two events until many years later) I had a very vivid dream in which I was abducted by a classic looking flying saucer close to the same location. If you are interested in this aspect I can recount the dream and explain why I linked the two events many years later.
